28.05.2014, 15:56:54+John Kellden So very interesting these thoughts that the value is not dependent on the amount of posts or people in our circles. Also the importance of writing something about yourself in profile. Actually, if somebody circles me and I don't find information about them on their profile I don't circle them back..

28.05.2014, 04:46:54One can't
+Herb Isenberg! That's the fascinating thing about communication... It is our own creation and thus subjective.
Now, there are scholars who believe we can figure out structures and rules that the majority of people follow in given situations, and there are others who believe this is an inaccurate and simplified representation of the complex and ever evolving activity of communication... So it's really up to
you to decide what meaning really means lol

28.05.2014, 04:25:30Today was a big day over here and I left the HOA a little early early to go be an "explainer" as part of our annual inspection for re-certification as USDA Organic growers. The inspector was sort of mind-blown by taste of ripe tomatoes and the feel of controlled humidity in the heat pump heated greenhouse. I heard later that we had passed the inspection with "rainbow" colors.

Herb Isenberg
28.05.2014, 03:36:08When you use the concept of meaning are you referring to semantics ? If so, this will require a paradigm shift, as moving from the talk or sounds people make to inferring "meaning" is a very subjective enterprise and subject to interpretation. What is typically labeled as "meaning" may change over the course of conversation, and to infer that what a speaker is saying has meaning take a big leap of faith, this is only my opinion, yet, think about it, "How can one know for certain what an other meaning is over the course of a conversational interaction ?"

Alexandra Riecke-Gonzales
28.05.2014, 03:07:08I missed an interesting conversation here! What caught my interest most was this discussion about meaning.
The meaning of a Plus one and the meaning of an idea with the self versus with others. This is intriguing because, as you kind of point out
+John Kellden, we are sharing these ideas and plussing posts in a virtual space. The person behind the screen for the most part, and their intentions, are unknown to us. And
yet we find meaning in the actions that these unknown individuals take.
I will pretty much always return to framing but in this case it's interesting to consider the frame being taken: We frame the frame of others. We attempt to understand who the person behind the screen is so that we can discover the meaning of their actions... But the understanding of that individual is framed by us.
Loopy stuff :)

27.05.2014, 23:09:13Sorry, (for me), to miss the convo' today, John. Starting to watch it back now. Will complete tomorrow. Engaging and measured as always - am interpreting you so far not so much issuing a clarion call to listen out for the 'human act', but offering a validation that we do already create this reality between the words and images in acting as media (in a much deeper identifying sense than is normally meant by glibnesses liue 'we the media'...and to pay attention to that mediation process in the fractions of a second that we have before pressing........."Share". Feeling-provoking...thankyou.

26.05.2014, 16:26:19I have a question regards the intention of this hangout; is this to discuss or form a group regarding approaches for the investigation and analysis of human conversation and conversational behavior ? If not would someone please explain the intention and purpose of this group.
Personally, I am very interested in Conversational Analysis in order to develop a method of analysis that is independent of language, culture and gender. This is what I have been doing for quite some time now; And if the group is interested I would suggest taking a look at the writings of Havey Sacks, one of the originators of the field of Conversational Analysis. For the group's convenience here are a couple of links that may be of interest - see below, and Please let me know if other's share a common interest:
